The Comet Empire was discovered by the crew of the USS Bedivere when they briefly encountered a Xylosian vessel that had gotten pulled through time to the future. The encounter lasted only minutes before the vessel was pulled back into the past through a temporal wormhole. The same ship was later found at a Risian archeological site, which gave basic information about the vessel and Comet Empire.
After suffering a decisive defeat in a major galactic conflict against the Confederacy of Restea, the Comet Empire met its dissolution. In the wake of this conflict, the once-proud Xylosian race eventually faced extinction.

The Entity was first encountered by the USS Bedivere, and appeared as an ethereal form, a distorted shifting mass of shadow and light, constantly changing and never fully materializing. Often speaking in mysterious ways, its intentions were never fully known until after its defeat. Once the Entity was defeated, the Eclipsed Ones revealed themselves as thousands of races subjugated by the Entity. For millenia, the Entity sought 'The Shroud', an object of immense power capable of ending the universe. All that stood in its way succumbed...until the Bedivere. In thanks for removing the Entity from the universe, the Eclipsed Ones bestowed mysterious gifts upon the Bedivere.
